Save the Tatas: Avoid Mammograms

Breast cancer is one of the biggest cancer threats to women over the age of 50, so we’re told.  It’s become the norm to start getting mammograms at age 40 like clockwork, without question. Preventative measures are a good thing right?  Well, what if the very test itself to detect cancer is actually causing it?

Let’s be real.  Cancer is a billion dollar industry.  If you think the pharmaceutical companies who make billions of dollars profiting off cancer treatments care about your well being, I have a beach front property for sale.  What corporation do you know of that is making that kind of yearly profit would commit financial suicide? It’s not like they’re just going to come out and say, “Well we found cures for all the diseases we sell drugs to you to treat, we’re going to close our doors now.”

They have shareholders to report to.  Their duty is to their shareholders as they have publicly stated in the past.  Your health is not their concern. You think pharma spends more on lobbying than the military industrial complex for nothing?  They line the pockets of our politicians to create policies/legislation that benefits them, not you.

The truth about mammograms is starting to surface among the public.  I’ve read many articles about it so I thought it would be a good topic to cover in my blogs.

Research has revealed that many women have been wrongly diagnosed with breast cancer via the mammogram, and some were even wrongfully given chemotherapy to treat cancer they never had, damaging their bodies in untold ways.

The new study was published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and looked at data from over 600,000 women between the ages of 29 and 74 who had undergone the mammogram, the results showed that often the mammogram did more harm than good.

The study authors noted:

“If we assume that screening reduces breast cancer mortality by 15% and that overdiagnosis and overtreatment is at 30%, it means that for every 2000 women invited for screening throughout 10 years, one will avoid dying of breast cancer and 10 healthy women, who would not have been diagnosed if there had not been screening, will be treated unnecessarily.”

Another study that was recently published in the British Medical Journal concluded that regular mammogram screenings do not reduce breast cancer death rates. The researchers found no evidence to suggest that mammograms are more effective than personal breast exams at detecting cancer in the designated age group. The study involved 90, 000 Canadian women and compared breast cancer incidence and mortality up to 25 years in women aged 40-59

So you can get a clear picture, you can get as much radiation from one mammogram screening as you could from 1,000 chest X-rays. Mammograms also tightly compress your breasts, which can result in a greater spread of cancerous cells if they already exist at the time of the test. Dr. Samuel Epstein, one of the world’s top cancer experts, said: “The premenopausal breast is highly sensitive to radiation, each 1 rad exposure increasing breast cancer risk by about 1 percent, with a cumulative 10 percent increased risk for each breast over a decade’s screening.”

The Deadly Breast Cancer Gene

Turns out, from a recent Lancet Study, the deadly breast cancer gene is a “myth.”  The study revealed that the so-called breast cancer susceptibility genes — BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 — do not, in fact, cause breast cancer.  Jolie’s prophylactic mastectomy, for instance, was for naught.

The study titled, “Germline BRCA mutation and outcome in young-onset breast cancer (POSH): a prospective cohort study,” found,

“[There is] no significant difference in overall survival or distant disease-free survival between patients carrying a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation and patients without these mutations after a diagnosis of breast cancer.”

“The study, published in The Lancet Oncology, found 12% of 2,733 women aged 18 to 40 treated for breast cancer at 127 hospitals across the UK between 2000 and 2008 had a BRCA mutation.

The women’s medical records were tracked for up to 10 years.

During this time, 651 of the women died from breast cancer, and those with the BRCA mutation were equally likely to have survived at the two-, five- and 10-year mark as those without the genetic mutation.

This was not affected by the women’s body mass index or ethnicity.

About a third of those with the BRCA mutation had a double mastectomy to remove both breasts after being diagnosed with cancer. This surgery did not appear to improve their chances of survival at the 10-year mark.”

The study has powerful implications for the future of breast screening programs and the standard of care for ‘breast cancer’ patients. So powerful is the belief that BRCA genes ’cause’ breast cancer, that millions around the world consider it fact. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie have added fuel to the fire of this dangerous myth, by electing to have her breasts removed ‘due to her BRCA status and the recommendations of her physicians.

Using celebrities to push a product is all too familiar why would they stop at mammograms and surgeries?  That’s big money for the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry. This is the result of a “free-market” we are told we have.  Crony capitalism and rampant corruption is not a free-market. Not even close. People need to ALWAYS question professionals.  Get a second or third opinion. Yes even look up information on your google machine, even doctors do that. We must starve this beast we call pharma before they ruin us all.
