1984 Warned that Big Brother is Watching
1984 Warned That Big Brother is Watching You. The Chilling George Orwell Police State is Being Realized in America Today & This Book Helps You See the Signs.
The novel 1984 warned that Big Brother is watching you.
This fictional piece has become more prophetic every day. Whether George W. Bush’s presidency would have been different if September 11th had never happened we will, of course, never know.
However, what happened, happened, and former President Bush made choices in the aftermath of the horror and death that occurred when the World Trade Center towers were destroyed.
Bush began waging a war against terrorism and moved the country toward creating a huge Homeland Security apparatus, which was definitely prophetic of how 1984 warned that Big Brother is watching.
But Bush’s presidency simply accelerated a phenomena that was already occurring; the erosion of our Constitution.
As far back as Abraham Lincoln it has been scorned and ignored, but 9/11 simply allowed the banking elite who rule our government to take it’s destruction to yet a higher level.
For those not familiar with George Orwell’s novel, ”1984,” it described a government that controlled the masses by spreading propaganda, cracking down on subversive thought, and altering history to suit its needs.
In ‘1984’ the state remained in an unending war against a vague and ever-changing enemy.
The war took place largely in non-reality, but it served as a convenient method for fueling hatred, nurturing fear, and justifying the regime’s autocratic practices.
Bush’s war against terrorism has become almost as formless, and it is eerily reminiscent of Big Brother and ”1984”.
Although the former president’s resolve was supposedly steady and his mission clear, it seemed that less and less was known about the enemy being fought.
What began as a war against Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda quickly changed into a war against Afghanistan followed by dreadful warnings about an ”Axis of Evil,” the targeting of terrorists in some 50 to 60 countries and a major war in Iraq, which is still going on. Unfortunately, Obama seems to be just as much of a puppet, albeit more charming.
Big Brother is all Powerful
When 1984 warned that Big Brother is watching, it was referring to the omnipresent and all-powerful leader known as Big Brother who commanded the total and unquestioning support of the people.
Big Brother was both adored and feared, and no one dared speak out against him lest they be met with the wrath of the state.
This compares to our time when those who wanted to voice their dissent towards former President Bush’s actions were placed in ”No Protest Zones” which were fenced areas several blocks away from where the president was speaking.
1984 warned that Big Brother is watching, and the ever-present Thought Police were charged with eradicating dissent and ferreting out resistance.
They carefully monitored all unorthodox or potentially subversive thoughts.
Although the Bush administration did not prosecute thought crime, its members were quick to question the patriotism of anyone who dared criticize their handling of the war on terrorism or homeland security.
Are You a Patriot?
An example of this was the manner in which Attorney General John Ashcroft answered critics of his antiterrorism measures by stating that opponents of the administration ”only aid terrorists” and ”give ammunition to America’s enemies”.
Even more ominous was the stern warning that White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer sent to Americans after Bill Maher, host of the now defunct ‘Politically Incorrect,’ called past U.S. military actions cowardly.
”These are reminders to all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch what they do, and this is not a time for remarks like that; there never is.”
The ever-watchful eye of Big Brother kept constant tabs on the citizens of Orwell’s totalitarian state, using two-way telescreens to monitor people’s every move while simultaneously broadcasting party propaganda.
While this technology may not have arrived yet, public video surveillance has become all the rage in law enforcement, with cameras being deployed everywhere from sporting events, to public beaches, to city streets.
People Become ”Eyes and Ears” for Law
The Bush administration also called on all Americans to serve as ”extra eyes and ears for law enforcement,” reporting any suspicious activity as part of a program dubbed Operation TIPS.
This was yet another reminder that 1984 warned that Big Brother is watching in the form of your neighbor.
The hastily passed USA Patriot Act gave the justice department sweeping new powers to monitor phone conversations, Internet usage, business transactions, and library reading records.
Requiring probable cause was done away with as just an inconvenience.
1984 warned that Big Brother is watching and while this situation may not exactly be happening in America today, a strong comparison certainly exists.
We are a nation at war that is constantly being reminded that we need to sacrifice many of our freedoms in return for the promise of greater security.
We have also been asked to put our blind faith in the government and most of us have done so with patriotic fervor.
Nevertheless, when the government abuses that trust and begins to stamp out the freedom of dissent which is a hallmark of a democratic society, the people need to object strenuously, or there will soon be no turning back.
Obama is proving to be just the same as Bush, if not worse. He has done nothing to return our rights to us and the change he promised is change for the worse.
We must stand up and demand or Constitutional rights be returned to us.
