According to Leaders, the ACORN Housing Association is Just Interested in Keeping People in Their Houses.

The ACORN Housing Association is more than just your normal housing association.

Its purpose is to help and guide people through some of the recent legislation that is being passed intent on keeping people in their homes through the current mortgage crisis.

Like its parent organization, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, the housing association works off the assumption that people in low income areas remain in dire straits because they do not know what options are actually available to them.

With the launching of Obama’s Homeowner Affordability and Stability Program, the Acorn Housing Association became one of many non-for-profit HUD counseling programs pushing the merits of the program.

They even launched a new website specifically geared towards those in need of help and counseling concerning home mortgages and loans, www.acornhousinghlep.org.

This type is being pushed into the forefront of the news surrounding the ACORN organization due to the many accusations of improprieties surrounding the group.

A whistleblower recently discharged from the group for charging $2000 in personal expenses on an ACORN credit card, Anita MonCrief, came forward laying belief to Republican accusations of voter fraud in many states.

Reports of protest for hire have surfaced; threats of demonstrations against an organization or company in exchange for donations (not to demonstrate).

Eleven different states have ongoing investigations concerning alleged voter fraud instigated by the company; somehow the Dallas Cowboy football team all became registered to vote in Nevada after one of their drives.

Republicans also claim that the organization was working directly for the Obama campaign in its voter registration efforts, which would be a violation of campaign finance laws and regulations.

With so many negative accusation being voiced against the organization it is no wonder that they just want to focus on their work by the ACORN housing association geared towards keeping people in their homes.

Questionable Tactics

ACORN has been known for using some questionable tactics during its day. Their method has definitely been somewhat of an in your face style.

Protest have disrupted Federal Reserve meetings as well as a few closed door meetings in local government venues.

In Baltimore, four busloads of protesters, many screaming profanities, protested outside of the mayor’s home.

It’s all in a Name

Much has been said about Acorn and many of their activities. Whether or not many or any of those accusations will ever be fully substantiated remains to be seen.

However, in the realm of the media it is guilty till proven innocent.

Down the line, the negativity following the ACORN name by make it more difficult for the ACORN Housing Association to continue helping Americans stay in their homes.
