The American Education Research Association
The American Education Research Association Has Leftist Bill Ayers on Board to Influence Future Generations of Voters Who Subscribe to His Radical Views.
The American Education Research Association was set up in 1916 as an organization representing educational researchers in the United States and elsewhere in the world.
With more than 26,000 members, its role is to promote the publication of research results and how these can be used practically.
Among its membership is a radical figure by the name of William Ayers, who was part of the terrorist Weather Underground Organization of the 60s and 70s.
This organization was founded in 1969 as an anti-American Government group, which conducted a campaign of riots, bombings and even a jail break.
They took what they called retaliatory measures against Government buildings, such as the Pentagon and Department of State building over the U.S. bombing of Hanoi and war with Vietnam.
Ayers was a co-founder of the organization, and has stated since that he didn’t feel the group did enough.
He is now vice-president for curriculum at the American Education Research Association, where he can influence what is taught in the nation’s schools.
Of course, everyone is or should be allowed to have a political view, so long as they conduct themselves within the law of the land.
However, Ayers’s way of protesting in the 60s and 70s was distinctly unlawful, and his use of explosive materials cost his then girlfriend’s life, albeit by accident.
It doesn’t seem right, whatever a person’s political or religious views, to allow a former terrorist to hold a position of such importance to the education of America’s children.
The obvious conclusion to draw from this would be Ayers will not condemn his actions of the past, and by holding this post at the American Education Research Association, he will be a terrible influence on American kids.
Critics also say his left wing thinking will influence the American Education Research Association in such a way, that more funding will be made for research in to social justice teaching rather than how to teach kids to read.
This is probably a little bit of scare mongering by the right wing though, for the Bill Ayers issue really was a stick used by Republicans to beat Barack Obama in the 2008 U.S. presidential election.
Ayers’s connection with Obama, as it turns out, is fairly tenuous, although they both served on the board of the same charity and lived in the same neighborhood.
The Ayers’ card dealt in the campaign by the Republicans, and indeed before that, by Hilary Clinton, didn’t really come to anything.
American Double Standards
Ayers’s appointment was an opportunity for the right wing press to accuse the education establishments of promoting social justice teaching.
