An American University Education Has Become More About Finding the Next Great Excuse to Drink Rather than Education
An American University Education Just is not What it Use to Be.
When the Baby Boomers were growing up all they ever heard was that you had to go to college if you were going to make something of yourself; to them an American university education was the key to future success.
It only stands to reason that they would do the same for their children and encourage them to obtain a college education.
With a couple generations focused on attending college after high school, some universities have begun to take notice and have reacted like any good business would.
They hiked up there rates rather dramatically; with the need for a college education engrained into the average American psyche, while there has been plenty of complaining about costs attendance has not really suffered.
The hopes would be that the rising costs would be intertwined with a higher quality of education, but whether or not that is true remains to be seen.
Think back to your own college days (if you attended); what did you honestly do most of the time? What seemed to take over in order of importance- the party, the opposite sex, the party, studying, spring break, the party?
An American university education has become more about the party and getting out from under Mom and Dad’s watchful, disapproving glare than it has about education.
Kids do not remember all that much from class, but ask them who their pledge brothers were and they will not miss a single one.
Incidents of sexual misconduct are on the rise; recent estimates have one out of every four women attending college falling victim to sexual assault while in college and often during their first year or two when they are still trying to figure out what breakfast is without Mom there to tell them.
Has this brought much concern over the lack of an actual education being obtained or an unsafe environment being fostered?
Is this what are Parents Want?
One must wonder a little if this is what are parents actually want. While the individual answers would all probably be no, the collective one would undoubtedly be yes.
No parent would want their daughter to be at risk for harm nor would they wish anything but the best for them hence getting prayer kicked out of school so that the Amish kid three counties over does not have to be ostracized.
As a collective whole, the failure of American university education plays right into their hands.
With the next generation being too dumb be able to handle the complexities of governing and politics the Baby Boomers will have to remain in power just that much longer (and hope their grandkids pay more attention in class).
The Future?
Chances are the American university education system is going to go in one of two directions.
It could improve and begin to hold kids accountability and become affordable for the average intelligent kid.
It could also price itself out of existence to where only the elite will be able to afford it which will also be when it become something of value once again.
