How many supreme court justices can sit by and watch this country get torn apart is a question that is actually answered quite easily, being a presidential nominated job, the power lies with the president to place judges in the Supreme Court with the Senate’s approval, making it easy to manipulate the interests of the majority (5-4).

There is one appointed Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices that make up the body of the Supreme Court.

The way the courts are run is usually a reflection of the Chief Justice and his political background and influence that play a huge part in the workings of specific Supreme Courts.

Current Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is known to run a more conservative court opposed to his predecessor William Rehnquist, who was noted as running a more liberal court which was a disappointment to the Bush administration who were pushing for a more conservative influence.

With the current average age of 68, newly elected President Barack Obama will have an opportunity to nominate judges for the seats that will be vacated by retirement and resignation.

We will see a reconfiguration of our Supreme Court system and a chance to sway the need for conservative views being pushed and prodded into the arms of the public.

More and more judges are hesitating to step down, ex-Chief Justice William Rehnquist over stayed his presence on the bench after a bout with cancer that was ultimately leading to the undeniable truth that it was time for him to step down, and he still didn’t make the announcement of retirement.

While the truth remains that a democratic government can work, we have seen all too often through out history, the majority becomes encompassed with power, and then has the power to manipulate the minority, and abuses its power by oppressing the minority.

That should sound familiar, that was the realty our Founding Fathers faced when they stood up in times of adversity and took the freedom we’re entitled too right out of the hands of the monarch rule of the British.

The Supreme Court holds those same principles of a majority vote dominating the minority, and since this power is concealed to just nine individuals, it is much easier to taint with political influence and intimidation.

How Many Supreme Court Justices Does It Take to Make a Decision on a Case

When talking about the majority vote in the Supreme Court, it is determined by a 5-4 majority vote, of the 8 Associate Justices one is considered to be the “sway” vote that will break a 4-4 tie in the voting procedure.

This gives the power of the controllers to just need to sway and poison the mind and integrity of one judge to make the majority vote a benefactor best befitting their needs.
