NYC Jet Flyover

NYC Jet Flyover Revives Trauma and Fear Provoked by Sour Taste of U.S. Profiteering and Global Violence.

The April 27 NYC jet flyover will not go down as one of the Obama Administration’s finest moments.

It was a clear Monday morning when the White House achieved sending hundreds if not thousands of residents, workers and tourists in lower Manhattan into panic.

The sight of the jumbo jet circling low over the harbor with a fighter jet in hot pursuit could only stir fears in downtown New York, especially when the planes set course directly for Ground Zero.

All of the country immediately knew of the event, a photo op for the back up Air Force Once presidential jet.

More than $328,000 was spent on the outing, a less than presidential gesture in troubled economic times.

Even more stunning than the unpublicized event was the reaction by the White House Pres Secretary who knew nothing of the event and tried to make light of the situation.

Hours later he apologized and the following day the President announced a thorough investigation and pledged that such affairs would not be repeated.

Within a week the White House official responsible, Luis Caldera , Clinton’s Army Secretary and Obama White House Military Affairs Director, had resigned.

Like It was Only Yesterday

The NYC jet flyover had been planned for one month and probable public concern was discussed according to the Administration.

Nevertheless the FAA told city authorities to keep quiet over the scheduled fly by.

No doubt the visual impact multiplied with the low flying sharp turns that the public is unaccustomed to seeing from a jumbo jetliner.

In the wake of the morning sight and buzz, New York downtowners and firefighters were traumatized with the sensation that 9/11 explosions had just occurred.

U.S. Policies Make U.S. Vulnerable

The NYC jet flyover raises concerns over the lack of coordination in the White House as if no one that should have known what was happening did.

The event also demonstrates the vulnerability of the American psyche in the continued aftermath of the 2001, 9/11 attacks.

The event reminds New Yorkers of the vulnerability that they discovered that they live in less than a decade ago.

It is a vulnerability provoked by decades of abuses in the Arab world, support to dictatorships and violence in the US corporate battle for control of middle eastern oil.

Al Qaeda’s Message Hit Home

Unless U.S. policies change dramatically toward the world any NYC jet flyover will continue to provoke fear.

Al Qaeda demonstrated that the U.S. is not safe. Americans understood that message.

As long as U.S. foreign policy is only aimed at robbing resources for U.S. corporate profiteering, often provoking increased suffering to do so, these policies are only creating hatred and new armies of terrorists.

It is a shame that the most powerful people in the world are only driven by accumulating more power, resources and wealth rather than having any real interest in making the world a better place.
