Say It Out Loud: Israel is an Apartheid State!
Israeli leaders and their supporters in the U.S. never tire of proclaiming Israel to be the “only democracy in the Middle East,” while vehemently denying that Isreal is an apartheid state. But on June 5, the leadership of the Knesset (parliament) voted to not allow even the discussion of a bill calling for equal rights and status for the “Arab and Jewish nationalities” inside the 1948 borders of the Israeli state.
The bill, titled, “State of All Its Citizens,” was introduced by three members of the Balad party, Jamal Zahalka, Haneen Zoabi and Jouma Azbarga. Balad is one of the parties representing the approximately 1.5 million Palestinians living inside Israel. Speaker of the parliament, Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, an immigrant to Israel from Ukraine, called the bill “absurd,” and explained why the indigenous Palestinian population must not, from his point of view, be accorded equal rights:
“We cannot allow a proposal whose goal is to gnaw away at the foundations the State of Israel is built upon to be on the Knesset’s agenda.”
Most of Edelstein’s colleagues were in full agreement. Knesset Legal Adviser Eyad Yinon, stated:
“As a matter of principle and in its details, it’s hard not to see this proposal as seeking to negate the State of Israel’s existence as a state of the Jewish people.”
The admissions that a law calling for equal rights for all would “negate” or “gnaw away at the foundations” of Israel are very revealing, reconfirming the racism and exclusivism that has always characterized Zionism, the ideological foundation upon which the state of Israel was constructed.
While the bill would have been overwhelmingly defeated had it come to the Knesset floor, that was an eventuality that Israeli political leaders sought to head-off at all costs. Such a vote would have struck a devastating blow at the much-promoted fiction that Israel is both a democratic and Jewish state.
The contortions needed to maintain this position are illustrated by a June 4 headline in the right-wing Jerusalem Post: “Knesset Refuses to Put Bill Rejecting Jewish, Democratic Israel to a Vote.” In other words, in order to maintain Israel’s “democratic” character,” voting on – or even discussing – such issues as equal rights must be avoided
The corporate mass media in the U.S. “solved” the problem of how to cover this story by simply ignoring it. BIG SHOCKER RIGHT?
The crime of apartheid is most often associated with South Africa- and indeed it took the atrocities committed in South Africa to prompt the international community to define ‘apartheid’ and declare it a crime against humanity in 1973, and then again in 1998. Apartheid or ‘segregation’ as a socio-political system of imposed separation based on ethnicity and race can take many forms, including the form it takes in Palestine today. The definition provided by the 1973 convention is a way of defining this type of state, anywhere in the world.
Israeli law includes over 50 laws that discriminate against Palestinian Muslims and Christians, from legal services and housing to education and healthcare. Palestinians are refused the right to return to their own country, or locked up behind a separation wall, forced to carry permits and to go through checkpoints. Desmond Tutu called the Gaza Strip,
“The largest open-air prison in the world.”
Palestinians are prisoners behind the walls and live under military occupation.
It has also been widely reported that Israel is handing out deportation orders to African migrants. Many of these African immigrants fled their countries to seek asylum in Israel, narrowly escaping civil war and ethnic cleansing from Sudan and Eritrea. Not only do they face indefinite imprisonment in “concentration camp” type of detention centers if they refuse deportations, Israelis are offered a bounty to capture of one African immigrant by the Israeli government.
Ethiopians Jews living in Israel are no exception, moreover, Jewish Ethiopians who speak Hebrew were educated in Israel, and know little about the country that their parents or grandparents came from.
Israeli health care officials admitted to forcibly (without consent) injecting Ethiopian and African migrants women with contraceptives. In 2016, Ethiopian-born Israeli model and actress Tahunia Rubel described Israel as:
“One of the most racist countries in the world.”
A withdrawn UN report’s conclusion that the criminal occupation of Palestine and Israel’s racist policies toward Palestinians are “apartheid” remains true. The report concluded:
“Israel is guilty of the international crime of apartheid.” With these words, Richard Falk presented a fresh-from-the-press UN report mid-March, while his colleague, Virginia Tilley, clarifies: “We are no longer talking about risk of apartheid but practice of apartheid.”
The two internationally renowned US scientists conducted the study on the treatment of the Palestinians by Israel on behalf of the United Nations organization Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), which concluded:
“The weight of the evidence supports beyond a reasonable doubt the contention that Israel is guilty of imposing an apartheid regime on the Palestinian people.” The report acknowledges the need for a proper international judicial process to provide these conclusions the necessary authority and therefore encourages UN courts to take on this task. With all its explosive nature, the report is a historic landmark because it is the first time that a UN organization has identified the permanent crimes committed by Israel as “apartheid.”
Americans Fed Propaganda From Israeli Controlled Media Outlets
With all of the horrible thing, the Israeli Government is doing, you’d think America, the land of the “free” would be ready to invade and free the Palestinians from tyrannical rule. However, that is unlikely to happen considering America has way too many Christians who believe the propaganda and believe if they do not support the State of Israel, no matter what they do, they will be punished by God.
Most American Christians have no idea that 35% of the Palestinians are Christians. The anti-Arab-anti-muslim brainwashing has taken hold in the Christian consciousness in America. All major media outlets are controlled by Zionists, who are carrying out Israel’s agenda. AIPAC lobby in the united states is the most powerful lobby in existence. America is funding the Israeli Government to the tune of $10 Million Dollars a day (in annual aid). While we have veterans sleeping on the streets.
Israel is not our ally. Israel is not the “democracy” it claims to be. There is no democracy when people of a certain ethnicity are denied the same rights as those living across the street from them. The slandering of any criticism of Israel as Anti-Semitism is losing its effect.
It’s time to say it out loud, ISRAEL IS AN APARTHEID STATE!
