The Council for American Private Education is the Voice of Private Schools Across the Nation
The Council for American Private Education Could Also be the End of Public Education.
As the quality of public education continues to suffer the need for more private education institutions continues to grow.
With options for education becoming more and more common to the American family, private schools have been the main beneficiary of that choice.
While some schools are beginning to suffer due to poor economic times, causing some to limit the programs they are able to offer and some to even shut their doors, private school has remained an option for many with the help of school vouchers available through some municipal and governments.
Private schools could very well end up to be the major source of education in the nation in the coming years.
With private schools being viewed as an actually option for many, there has been a growing need for private institutions to band together for the common cause of seeking to improve the plight of their schools and the students they serve.
The Council for American Private Education was formed for that very purpose.
CAPE is a national organization of elementary and secondary schools and the national and state affiliates that service them.
There are in fact over 29,000 private schools in the nation, approximately every one out of four schools in the nation.
Nationwide there are more than six million students attending private school; almost 80% of all private schools are a part of CAPE.
Just like any other group of like-minded individuals, by binding together in common purpose, private schools are able to get their voice heard and the issues that affect them most listened to and addressed.
It also makes it easier to prepare to take over the educational system when the government decides to outright privative it which would make the Council for American Private Education one of the most powerful and influential organizations in the country.
Stimulus Bill
The Council for American Private Education has been trying to influence what all is included in the recent economic stimulus package.
Provisions have been made to allow for funds from the stimulus package to be used for improving the public education system.
CAPE is actually arguing for the government to include private education schools in the government spending bill.
Seems like they are forgetting a rather important fact- they are privately funded; that means no government money.
The Future
If the Council for American Private Education succeeds in lobbying the White House for concessions than the public education system might as well shut down.
Most schools and teachers are under-funded as is; take away students and resources and school improvement will become nearly impossible.
However, if federal funds began to flow into private education, not only will it theoretically mean that it is no longer private but discriminatory (regardless of their entrance standards) and public, it will also mean the end of public education as we know it.
