The Echelon Program is a multi-national espionage program run by the members of the UK-USA Security Agreement.

The United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada are involved. This program has been around since the 1940s.

Echelon was originally created to spy on the Soviet Union during the Cold War by using advanced technology to pick up signals and information from the Soviets and transmit them among the allies of the United States.

Today, Echelon’s official reason for remaining in existence is to spy on known terrorist groups and other creepy, crawly things that go boo though the program is also being used to spy on other governments and corporations.

Echelon works by intercepting signals of all kind at switching stations all around the world and distributing them to American allies.

These signals are intercepted to spy on citizens, corporations and other governments, for various interests, most likely economic ones.

UK-USA Agreement

Following the signing of the United Kingdom-United States Security Agreement which included the governments of the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand in 1941 the five governments created Echelon.

This program would be used to intercept German and later Soviet intelligence and disseminate the information among the member governments.

The Echelon program played a major part in western spying on Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union and served as a major help to the west during World War II and the Cold War.

The program was used to collect and distribute crucial intelligence intercepted from the Soviet Union and Germany.

Modern Usage

After the Cold War officially ended in the early nineteen nineties, the west’s focus shifted towards the Middle East where the modern threats were emerging from seemingly every country.

The Echelon program became an organization used to spy on possible terror cells throughout the world as well as foreign governments.

Echelon did not only spy on “enemy governments” such as Iraq, Iran, and Syria but also on “ally” countries such as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

In the twenty-first century, the program came hand in hand with the domestic spying programs of countries like the United States and the United Kingdom.

They were created by Big Brother governments scared to death of another terrorist attack but not knowing how to go about stopping them logically.

Echelon has creepy looking bases all throughout the world that are large fields in the middle of nowhere with large orb looking structures in which the main operations are run.

The Echelon program used switching stations located all around the world to intercept intelligence.

According to a European Parliamentary report, there are at least eight bases in the United States and territories of the United States, two in Australia, one in Canada, one in New Zealand, four in the United Kingdom, one in China, one in Japan, and one in Germany.

Echelon is used to spy on economic events in foreign governments as well.

Many believe that Echelon intelligence is what stopped a multi-billion dollar deal between Airbus and Saudi Arabia when it was discovered that Airbus was bribing Saudi officials.
