The Elections of Abraham Lincoln Created Violent Reactions in Some.

The elections of Abraham Lincoln created more chaos than the election of any other President, as the South was afraid of what Lincoln stood for, and because of that, they thought he was going to tear the South apart. 

What they did not realize was that he actually wanted to keep the Union together, and he would do that at any cost, so when Southern states decided to secede because of his election, that put the plan in motion for bringing the Union back together. 

Lincoln won his first election without the support of the South, and he did not even make it on the ballot of some of the Southern states. 

It was a surprise when he was elected, and the South immediately reacted by claiming he would not be their President. 

During the second of the elections of Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War was still raging, and thus the nation was torn apart. 

Lincoln did not have the support of the Southern states in the first election, and in the second election they did not even vote. 

The Union was loyal to Lincoln, and they were also concerned about changing Presidents in the middle of a war, and the Lincoln campaign capitalized on that sentiment by suggesting with their campaign slogan that it would not be wise to change representation in the middle of a war. 

Lincoln did not expect to win the election, and it was a time when it would have been hard to predict an outcome at all. 

The nation was at war and it was pitted against one another. 

The idea of electing representation was hard to grapple with when soldiers were on the field dying. 

The elections of Abraham Lincoln showed a new direction the country was going in, as it proved they were willing to put the slave days behind them and start to move forward. 

The elections showed a new willingness to forge ahead and start to create the country they were capable of, without the human rights abuses that had plagued them in the past. 

The U.S. was formed with slavery in mind, but they were finally going to leave that behind and go in a new and more modern route.

The South and Lincoln

The South had a distaste for Abraham Lincoln, and when he got reelected they truly believed they would be able to win the war and they would not have to follow him as President.

They did not want to vote in the election because in their mind they were not part of the Union. 

Without their votes, another candidate did not have a chance. They were so certain they were right they did not want to cast a vote.

They did not want to be a part of the process they had condemned, and thus they allowed Lincoln to walk away with the election.

A New Platform

The last of the elections of Abraham Lincoln gave Lincoln a chance to work more with race issues.

He wanted to give blacks more rights, and he had already started working toward that when he died. That was likely what led to his death. 

Lincoln made many strategic moves to win the war, and he also made many moves to make blacks citizens of the country. He was able to start the Civil Rights Movement.
