The American Association for Higher Education describes itself as the oldest organization in the country devoted to higher education.

Since its inception in the late 1800s, the organization has grown to include the publication of books and other materials as well as accreditation.

The AAHE offers accreditation for more than 20 different disciplines taught in universities around the country.

This gives the organization a tremendous amount of clout into what is taught in college and how it is taught.

Notable members of the organization include the faculty and administration of the most prestigious universities in the country.

People such as these have been described as agents of change by Charlotte Iserbyt in her book The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America.

In the book, she describes a humanistic agenda designed to perpetuate a world government.

History of the American Association for Higher Education

The association was founded in 1870 as a division of the National Education Association.

The group fell apart in 1924 and was re-established in 1945 with a new mission and focus on higher education after World War II.

This mission is clearly listed on their website as providing programmatic and intellectual leadership in higher education.

Control what’s Taught to Control Thoughts

Any organization charged with accrediting programs of study and printing books used in a university has power over what it taught. Increasingly, colleges and universities have become information providers, rather than centers of learning and individual thought.

The curriculum has been watered down, similar to what has happened in public schools, and watchdog groups, such as the American Association for Higher Education have allowed it to happen.

Where Has Academic Freedom Gone?

The idea of college as a bastion for new thought and expression of ideas is gone. Now it is about making money after college, rather than what can be learned there.

This complacency and the hard work of change agents have led to censorship on campuses around the country.

This is done by placing pressure on faculty, particularly adjunct professors without tenure.

Professors without tenure can be fired for teaching, or allowing discussions of, controversial topics, including racial issues, unorthodox philosophies or anything not deemed appropriate by administrators.

Growing numbers of colleges are using part time adjuncts to teach courses, rather than full time tenured professors to allow for this type of control.

A growing number of professors are avoiding controversial topics in class, which reduces the college experience.
