What’s the Relationship Between Congress and the Executive Branch?
Congress And The Executive Branch Are Supposed to Keep Each Other in Check.
The United States of America was designed for the benefit of the people living in the country.
The government was structured so that not one branch of government would hold all the power.
The people were to be protected from totalitarian type of rule by each branch of the government keeping the other two in line.
The relationship between each branch of government is one of accountability.
The relationship between congress and the executive branch should be no different in theory.
The problem with theory is that theory does not always equal practice.
The problem with the current operation of our government is that it does not always operate the way it was designed to in theory.
When it comes to governmental operations, each branch is hesitant to second guess the others, and therefore unfortunately allow the abuse of power to happen.
Checks and Balances
Balance
The government is intended to have an equal balance of power distributed between its three branches.
For instance, congress and the executive branch can counteract each other.
If congress presents a law, it can be vetoed by the president. If the president presents a law it can denied by congress.
The relationship between congress and the executive branch should be one of checks and balances, but lately it has not been working that way.
Lately, they have been accommodating each other rather than holding each other accountable for their actions.
Congress has allowed the executive branch to pass laws which are completely unconstitutional.
The laws which have come out of the executive branch in recent years have violated the Constitution of the United States.
How can there be laws passed which are against the Constitution? Shouldn’t one of the branches notice this and call for a stop?
Change
The people of America need to call for a change in governmental operations.
We need to demand that the government resumes operating in the intentions of its structure.
Without an effective system of checks and balances, each branch of the government is free to abuses its power.
The courts, Congress and the executive branch cannot be afraid to make waves and upset each other. The accountability needs to be there.
When we are successful in changing our governmental operations back to their intended state, much of the negative aspects of our government will be solved.
When checks and balances are put back in to place, there will be much less abuse of power going on within our government.
There will be a less of a chance of politicians with corrupt practices such as taking bribes and working for the desires of the few rather than the many.
Somehow we need to find a way for the change to happen. We need to find a way for the Constitution to be followed and for the balance of power to again be righted.
